In 2005 Forbes.com ranked Issaquah as the 2nd fastest-growing suburb in the state, and the 89th in the nation. Neighboring cities include Bellevue, and Redmond, both 8 miles away. Downtown Seattle is just 17 miles from Issaquah. According to a 2012 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $87,074, and the median income for a family was $115,814. The per capita income for the city was $47,949.

Issaquah is bisected by Interstate 90, which runs from Seattle to Boston, and Washington State Route 900, which connects the city to neighboring Renton. The neighboring highlands are called the Issaquah Alps and feature hiking trails and outdoor activity throughout the three mountains surrounding Issaquah: Tiger Mountain, Cougar Mountain, and Squak Mountain.

There are also many cultural and historical activities to be found in the town of Issaquah itself. Special events include the Salmon Days Festival, held on the first full weekend of October, and live stage plays performed at the Village Theatre. In addition, Issaquah hosts the Cougar Mountain Zoo by the north slope of Cougar Mountain. The zoo This 8-acre zoo offers a glimpse of many endangered species from across the world, including many birds and small lemurs from Madagascar. The highlight of the zoo for many is the cougar, named Nashi. Issaquah also has a salmon hatchery that annually raises close to 4 million Chinook (King) and Coho (Silver) salmon that end up swimming to the North Pacific. For shoppers, Gilman Village offers 40-plus shops and restaurants; it’s one of Puget Sound’s best known and most distinctive shopping destinations.
